چکیده

Premise The evolution of sex chromosomes is driven by sexual dimorphism, yet it can be challenging to document sexually dimorphic traits in dioecious plant species. At the genetic level, dimorphism identified through sequence variation between females and males associated with antagonistic different fitness optima. This study aims examine for 26 three populations Salix purpurea (a diversity panel F1 F2 populations) determine effect on biomass yield, a key trait bioenergy crops across multiple years, locations, under manipulated growth conditions. Methods Sexual was evaluated morphological, phenological, physiological, wood composition unrelated S. accessions full-sib families produced controlled cross pollinations grown replicated field trials. Results We observed timing development several that were highly predictive yield purpurea. Across all years surveyed, had significantly shallower branching angle. Male plants also accumulated more nitrogen fertilizer amendment as measured SPAD greater susceptibility rust fungus Melampsora americana family. Allometric modelling showed an location interaction stem height. Conclusions These results provide evidence certain may involved chromosome evolution.

Premature arrest of the male flower meristem precedes sexual dimorphism in the dioecious plant Silene latifolia.

Most dioecious plant species are believed to derive from hermaphrodite ancestors. The regulatory pathways that have been modified during evolution of the hermaphrodite ancestors and led to the emergence of dioecious species still remain unknown. Silene latifolia is a dioecious plant species harboring XY sex chromosomes. To identify the molecular mechanisms involved in female organ suppression i...

Nutritional Dimorphism in New Guinea Dioecious Figs

The life history of figs (Ficus, Moraceae) involves pollination by specialized insects and seed dispersal by vertebrate frugivores. This three-way interaction raises the possibility of conflict between pollinators and seed dispersers over fig resources. The conflict might be mediated in dioecious figs by the segregation of inflorescences with specialized male and female sexual functions, termed...

Fungal Infection Induces Sex-Specific Transcriptional Changes and Alters Sexual Dimorphism in the Dioecious Plant Silene latifolia

Sexual dimorphism, including differences in morphology, behavior and physiology between females and males, is widespread in animals and plants and is shaped by gene expression differences between the sexes. Such expression differences may also underlie sex-specific responses of hosts to pathogen infections, most notably when pathogens induce partial sex reversal in infected hosts. The genetic c...

Flower bud abortion influences clonal growth and sexual dimorphism in the understorey dioecious shrub Aucuba japonica (Cornaceae).

Sexual differences were investigated to determine the significance of flower bud abortion in the dioecious shrub Aucuba japonica Thunb. The mean number of flowers per inflorescence and the mean number of flowering inflorescences (as opposed to aborted inflorescences) per individual were greater in males than in females in 1997 and 1998. Reproductive investment by males was 0.4-times (1997) and ...
